How plastic ends up in the ocean

Every year around 8 million metric tons of plastic is dumped into the ocean, that's equivalent to a garbage truck full of rubbish going into the ocean every minute! Around 80% of the waste in the ocean is thought to be plastic, as a result of this around 1 million seabirds and 100,000 marine mammals die every year!

So how does so much plastic end up into the ocean?

1. Throwing plastic into the bin when it could be recycled. When plastic is being taken to landfill the plastic commonly gets blown away due to it being so lightweight which as a result ends up eventually being blown into the ocean.

2. General waste and littering will often be picked up by the wind and transported into rivers or oceans. Even if rubbish has been dumped or littered inland the rubbish will still make its way into the ocean.

3. Everyday products often get flushed down the toilet such as baby wipes, tampons, and plastic wrappers. Even washing synthetic clothes releases plastic microfibres into the washing machine which then enters the drain and then into our oceans.

That is why here at Musetique our mission is to help reduce this plastic waste going into the ocean. Our swimwear range EcoMuse Swim is made from 100% recycled plastic water bottles to help do our part in saving the oceans and so our customers can enjoy the ocean without damaging it. We want you to look good, feel good and do good.
